BIOGRAPHY
Chris
Hipkiss was born in a middle-class western suburb
of London in 1964. He left school at sixteen and became
an apprentice cabinetmaker at his fatheršs joinery
firm. Soon after leaving school he began to draw,
and created a book about a utopian place called Xoy
or Saratomeo. He now often begins his drawings on
long rolls of paper which are unfurled only a little
bit at a time, so that he is unable to see the entire
image at once while he is working. He prefers using
#4B (soft) pencils to render his complex visions of
androgynous feminist future worlds. At age 21 Hipkiss
married a computer analyst, and together they are
now raising a family in a small village in the English
countryside.
