BIOGRAPHY
Harry
Leroy Brunson spent sixty years attempting to perfect
a perpetual-motion machine. He worked in secret using
only a small handsaw and pocketknife in the basement
of his home in Greenville, Alabama. He occasionally
mentioned the project to members of his family, however,
no one had seen it until after his death in 1991.
Brunson was born in Victoria, Alabama, in 1898. Although
considered somewhat eccentric, he was a well-educated
man who pursued studies at Alabama Polytech (Auburn),
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and
the University of Southern California. He held a variety
of jobs throughout his life, from restaurant owner
to operator of a small feed store, and even claimed
at one time to have been on the vaudeville circuit.
But his ongoing passion was a determination to discover
the principle of perpetual motion and see it used
to advantage by the United States Government. His
machine depended in part on power derived from "devine
intervention" [sic] but no one knows if it ever
actually worked.
